Water Damage Restoration San Pedro, CA Near Harbor City

Roof leak in the wet months or a burst line in any season? Our 24/7 emergency line serves San Pedro, from the slopes above the coast down to the harbor.

9073190732

San Pedro merged into Los Angeles in 1909 and lies south of Harbor City. City Planning counts 82,513 residents in its San Pedro study area, and the water damage we see follows the weather and the terrain.

Our crews are licensed and insured, and the 24/7 dispatch line stays open through every season, with water mitigation starting as soon as the source is stopped. This page is organized by season first, then the hillside and housing facts that change how water behaves once it gets inside.

Wet months and dry months in San Pedro

We use no rainfall totals here, because we have no verified local measurements. What we can say is that the wet months bring roof, window and door leaks, and the dry months bring plumbing and appliance failures. Different sources call for different first steps. A ceiling left damp for days can also call for a mold remediation assessment.

SeasonTypical source of waterWhat we check first
Wet monthsRoof penetrations, flashing, gutters, window frames, garage doorsMoisture meter along ceilings and top plates, then attic or crawlspace
Wet months, after heavy runoffWater pushing at thresholds and low wallsBaseboards and slab edges, plus flood-type water handling
Dry monthsSupply lines, water heaters, dishwashers, washersCabinets, subfloors and wall bases near the fixture
Any monthDrain or sewer backupContaminated water rules, stay-out zones and disinfection

If your damage appears right after rain, tell us. A roof or flashing leak is a different repair path than a pipe leak, and a roofer may need to come before we dry the room. Our flood damage restoration page explains the storm-water side.

When water is spreading in San Pedro

On a slope, water follows gravity down through floors, stairs and the lower unit. Move in this order.

Find the closest stop

Close the fixture valve or the main. If water seems to come from a roof or wall in a storm, tarp what you can reach safely and skip ladders in wind.

Protect the circuits

Switch off wet-room breakers only from a dry panel. If water drips through a light fixture or near an outlet, leave it alone and call the utility or 911.

Save the low rooms

Move what sits on lower floors, garages and stair landings, since runoff and drip pool there first. Furniture legs go up on blocks or foil.

Skip the sewage, ring us

Avoid water from drains or toilets. Then call (424) 550-5662, our 24/7 dispatch, and tell us the slope, floor level and what is wet.

Hillside and coastal facts that matter

San Pedro's own city plan records that a 1929 slide took homes at what was then the 600 block of Paseo del Mar, an area now called Sunken City that is geologically unsafe and closed to the public. In 2011, a landslide destroyed a 600-foot section of Paseo del Mar near White Point Nature Preserve.

We do not say what caused either event. We do say that if water is pooling against a retaining wall, a foundation edge or a slope behind your home, tell us and ask a geotechnical professional. Drying a room does not make ground stable.

The plan area also includes a San Pedro and Port of Los Angeles Dual Coastal Plan Zone. Ask the city whether coastal rules touch your repair before you rebuild.

Slides and your policy

Policies commonly exclude flood, mudslide and debris flow. Check your policy and ask your insurer before assuming a slope loss is covered.

Housing age and what it means for drying

The City Planning ACS report for the San Pedro study area lists 32,867 housing units, with 55.9 percent renter-occupied, 55.4 percent multi-unit and 43.8 percent single-unit. Age spreads across several eras rather than one.

Point Fermin is described in the city plan as California Craftsman and Bungalow architecture, and Vinegar Hill is a historic district designated in 2001. If you live in either, say so when you call. Older trim and plaster are worth saving, and we plan the drying to limit removal.

Landmarks that help dispatch find you

These places are verified San Pedro landmarks. Give the closest one and a cross street.

  • Point Fermin Lighthouse, Angels Gate Park with its Korean Bell of Friendship, and Fort MacArthur are verified landmarks.
  • Cabrillo Beach and the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, plus the Warner Grand Theatre on 6th Street, are easy to name over the phone.
  • The Vincent Thomas Bridge and Gaffey Street, where Interstate 110 begins, are fixed points on any map.
  • Ports O' Call Village was demolished in 2019 to make way for West Harbor, so do not use it as a landmark.

City contacts and cost factors

San Pedro is in Council District 15 and has three neighborhood councils: Northwest San Pedro, Central San Pedro and Coastal San Pedro. The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety has an office at 638 S. Beacon St, ZIP 90731. We have not verified your water utility, so ask it, and note that LADWP lists a main break line at 1-800-DIAL-DWP.

Cost factorHow it changes the scope
Water category (1, 2 or 3)Clean supply water, rain intrusion and sewer water carry different categories
Affected areaUpper and lower units, stairs and garages add to the footprint
Materials involvedOld plaster, hardwood, carpet, insulation and drywall each need their own plan
Drying days and equipmentAir movers, dehumidifiers and mat systems run until the readings settle
Rebuild scopeMatching old trim or siding can take longer than the drying

An inspection starts the estimate: moisture mapping, photos, measurements, then scope and price explained before we begin. We offer same-day response when available and set no arrival times. Insurance can cover sudden damage and often excludes slow leaks, so check your policy and keep our documentation for your insurer.

San Pedro details that change the job

San Pedro has two street-delivery ZIPs for our service area, and the rest of the postal area is PO Box only. The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium was designed by Frank Gehry, the San Pedro Regional Library is at 931 S Gaffey, and the USS Iowa is berthed at Berth 87.

For neighboring cities, the Wilmington page covers the area east of San Pedro and the Lomita page explains a city-run water system. Work that needs rebuilding is described under water damage repair.

Frequently asked questions

Is emergency water removal available in San Pedro?

Yes. Call (424) 550-5662 at any hour of the day or night. We offer same-day response when available, though never an arrival time, and we ask about floor level, slope and the water source.

Do you cover every ZIP code in San Pedro?

We serve both street-delivery ZIPs, 90731 and 90732. ZIP 90731 also carries the Fort MacArthur and Terminal Island aliases. The remaining San Pedro ZIPs are PO Box only, so give your street address when you call.

Can heavy rain cause water damage I should report right away?

Yes. Roof, window and door leaks in the wet months can soak ceilings and walls fast. Photograph the area, tell your insurer promptly, and call us so drying begins before materials stay wet for days.

Does my historic or older San Pedro home dry differently?

Often, yes. Old plaster and trim are worth saving, so we measure moisture and remove only what has to go. Say if you are in Vinegar Hill or another historic area.

Is a slope or retaining wall problem part of water damage restoration?

No. We dry and repair the building. Ground movement is a question for a geotechnical professional, and your insurer can say how your policy treats it.
